Dr. Scott Bowen - Oral SurgeonDr. Scott Bowen DMD, MD, MPH is a board certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who has practiced in Vermont since 2003. In 2009 he established Maple View Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, PC in Middlebury, Vermont.

Dr. Bowen’s practice incorporates the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. This includes extraction of teeth, extraction of third molars or wisdom teeth, placement of dental implants for dental restoration and rehabilitation, bone grafting and reconstruction of the oral and facial structures, and pre-prosthetic surgery.

His other interests include orthognathic surgery and the correction of developmental and acquired dental and facial skeletal deformities, cleft lip and palate surgery, biopsies and treatment of pathologic lesions and entities of the of the mouth and face, evaluation and treatment of trauma to the mouth and face, surgical treatment of TMJ disorders, surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea, and facial cosmetic procedures.

He is certified to perform outpatient anesthesia and sedation, thereby allowing many of the above services to be comfortably performed in his office.

In 1992 Dr. Bowen received a Bachelors of Science in Biology from Wheaton College in Illinois. In 1997 he received a Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, and a Masters of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health. In 1999 he also received a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill.

Dr. Bowen completed his residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 2003. This six year residency included a full formal Internship in General Surgery during which Dr. Bowen received training in Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Trauma Surgery, and Surgical Intensive Care.

Additionally he completed formal Anesthesiology training. During his residency he received extensive training in third molar extraction, dental implants, bone grafting and augmentation of the jaws, orthognathic surgery, facial cosmetic surgery, facial trauma, oral and facial pathology and reconstruction, cleft lip and palate repair, surgical correction of craniofacial defects and craniosynostosis, surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea, and TMJ disorders.

In 2007 Dr. Bowen completed board certification as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a Fellow of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the American Dental Society of Anesthesia, the American Medical Association, the Vermont State Dental Society, and the Vermont Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He has served as an officer for the Vermont Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons as well as the Champlain Valley Dental Society. He has also served as a clinical instructor in the University of Vermont’s General Practice Residency in Dentistry.

Dr. Bowen currently lives in Charlotte, Vermont with his wife and three children. He enjoys outdoor activities, such as skiing, sailing, windsurfing, hiking, camping, archery, and fly fishing.
